PDFs are designed for reading, not editing. When you need to revise content, quote passages, or repurpose text from a PDF, converting to Word gives you an editable .docx file. This tool extracts text from text-based PDFs and packages it into a Word document — all without uploading your file to a server.
What Happens to Your PDF
The tool uses pdf.js to read the text layer from each page of your PDF, then builds a .docx file with docx.js. Multi-page documents include page headings so you can tell where content originated. Paragraph breaks detected in the PDF text flow carry over as separate paragraphs in Word. The result is editable text — not a visual replica of the original layout.

Quality & Limits
This tool performs text extraction, not layout conversion. Tables become lines of text, images are skipped, and multi-column layouts may extract in the wrong reading order. Scanned documents — PDFs that are essentially photographs of pages — contain no text data and cannot be converted without OCR preprocessing. Headers, footers, page numbers, and hyperlinks are not preserved.
What Usually Goes Wrong
- Converting a scanned PDF — If you cannot select text in a PDF reader, this tool will not produce useful output. Run OCR first.
- Expecting a formatted replica — The output is plain text in a Word file. Plan to reapply fonts, headings, and layout manually.
- Ignoring garbled column order — Newspapers, magazines, and multi-column reports often extract text in the wrong sequence. Review and rearrange carefully.
- Converting for image-heavy documents — If the PDF's value is in its visuals, use PDF to JPG instead and work with the images.
Tips for Best Results
- Test whether your PDF has selectable text before converting — click and drag in a PDF reader to highlight a word.
- For long documents, split the PDF into sections with Split PDF and convert each part separately for easier editing.
- After editing in Word, use Word to PDF to create a new PDF — but remember that round-trip conversion is basic and layout will differ.
- If text extraction produces good content but bad order, pasting into a plain text editor first can help you restructure before formatting in Word.
